Guess what? Your baby doesn't have to happily settle in their cot for every nap (or any nap...) if that doesn't work for him or you! (If it does, then keep on doing it!)
A nap is a nap no matter where it happens or how long (because, spoiler alert, a nap might just last 20 minutes sometimes!)
So, if you're happy to contact nap on the sofa while reading or catching up on a box set, or you like getting out of the house so nap time is the perfect opportunity for some fresh air and errands, or your littlest one always falls asleep in the car (and you don't know how, or if you even need, to stop it happening *spoiler...you don't), just do it! They're only so portable for so long, so enjoy the flexibility that them being happy and able to sleep anywhere brings.
You might hear people tell you that your baby needs to learn to sleep in their room, in the dark, in their cot, for two hours straight and blah blah blah...
But it's not true, I promise!
The more responsive you are to your little one's needs so that he can sleep happily and calmly, then the better baby and you will feel in the end! Remember, napping in the day is often going to need more external support because everything and everyone else in your baby's immediate environment are awake and raring to go. The sun is shining. So give them the help they need! Day and night sleep are 2 completely different beasts so you don't have to replicate how and where they sleep the same for both. And your little one's comfort at achieving one does not reflect their ability to do the other.
We want a well-rested baby to go into the night with so that there is no risk of overtiredness and wakefulness kicking in just as you're wanting to head for bed!
So, shut out the noise and do what works best for you and your happy napper!
