If you're bottle-feeding your little one breastmilk, don't worry about following what the boxes of formula say in regards to how much your baby should be having in 24 hours or for each feed!
Remember: formula is the same at every feed, every day and month they have it no matter their age. As baby grows, she'll therefore need more of that same product to sustain her - although I'd always still recommend feeding on demand, which may mean offering smaller feeds more regularly to avoid having to make up, and then wasting, large quantities of milk...
Breastmilk, however, is responsive to your baby! As you progress through your breastfeeding journey, your milk adapts to the changing needs of your baby. Your newborn needs very different things to her at 6 months old! Your baby also needs different things at the start of the day versus lunchtime or 9pm. So your milk adapts and provides what your baby most needs.
While formula boxes show you how to gradually increase how much your baby might need, you can just continue to give your baby breastmilk bottle-feeds responsively and following their lead - offer 30ml at the start of a feed. If they finish that and are still hungry, offer another 30!
The last thing we want is you to have to pour any of that magical milk away because you offered your baby a full bottle of 120mls and she only took half and nothing over the next 2 hours...
So, offer a little to start and then seconds, thirds and even dessert are always an option!
Note: if you're using frozen supplies of breastmilk, the milk you're giving isn't going to be in line with your baby in that moment but it's still very much able to provide the nutrition your baby needs in much smaller doses than a formula box may advise! So, if you are wanting to put milk aside for rainy days, it's great if you can freeze them in smaller quantities...maybe a variety of feed sizes, from a little 30ml snack to a 120ml main.
Happy feeding!
