I've just finished watching The Infant Feeding Academy Masterclass on tongue-tie (not for the first time...) and wanted to just remind you:
If you're having trouble with feeding your baby - whether at the breast or via bottle - start by seeking out Infant Feeding support as your first step! Sometimes, a host of little things can be minorly adjusted and DING! a lightbulb moment occurs with feeding suddenly greatly improved! A deeper latch achieved, a comfier position and attachment at the breast for you, ways to increase milk intake at each feed introduced! A certified Infant Feeding Coach/Breastfeeding councillor (like me) can observe a full feeding session within the comfort of your own home, or even over video if needed, and help you!
If, AFTER doing what you can to optimise feeding, issues are still remaining, THEN is perhaps the time to get an assessment done by a certified tongue-tie practitioner. Bonus points to you if you see a tongue-tie practitioner trained in Infant feeding.
There's listings of Tongue Tie Practitioners at: tongue-tie.org.uk
and
There's IBCLC listings (some of whom, like The Breastfeeding Doctor Sharon Silberstein, local to me, assess - and release - tongue ties) at LCGB.org where you can enter your postcode and find someone local.
I'd be interested in hearing any stories from people who have perhaps been told their baby has a tie only to have feeding issues resolved in other ways! Let me know!Â
I offer a range of guidance for new parents, including tailored advice and hands on support.
