Babywearing is a whole world of wonders. There is such a variety of slings/carriers that you can try and see what suits you best (perhaps it's 1 - or more - of every kind!). Here's a basic list to give you a starting point of your baby-wearing options:
Wrap slings:
Woven wraps - long pieces of (normally) rectangular fabric varying in length and width. These can be used for all sorts of carry's - front, back and hip.
Wring sling - this is a piece of fabric with 2 rings at one end through which the other end is threaded. They are used for front and hip carries.
1-way or 2-way stretchy slings - these are long pieces of knitted fabric varying in length that can be used similarly to the woven wraps for front, back or hip carries!
A hybrid stretchy wrap - combines the snuggly, closeness of a wrap-style sling with the benefit of a form of more structured support which some find gives them more security, support and comfort.
Carriers:
Meh-dai - a panel of fabric with 2 pairs of straps that you tie - good for front, hip or back carrying.
Buckle Carrier - a panel of fabric with clippable straps which may be rucksack style or crossable straps across the shoulders.
These are the slings that my peer-supporter training covered but baby-wearing is big business so there may very well be more to learn about! For now, you've got to start somewhere. So, let's start here. If you want to talk more about baby-wearing: why? how? when? what? Let's chat!
