As the temperature suddenly seems to change, and you return to your long pyjamas and your heavier duvet, don't forget to check your baby's bedtime layers too!
During those warmer nights we've been having, your little one may have been just fine in a short-sleeved vest and lightweight sleeping bag. Now, however, it's time to ensure he has more layers. Using multiple light layers as opposed to swapping one thinner item for a thicker one, makes it easier for you to adjust what your little one is wearing as the night progresses (if necessary).
So, this easy guide shows you how you can layer up, adjusting not just the clothing items but the sleeping bag thickness (or Tog as it is referred to).
Do
Use lightweight layers of clothing and sheets
Check the Tog of the sleeping bag your little one is using (if they use one)
Continue to position your baby 'feet to foot' and in an empty cot
Remove hats
Don't
Add blankets over the top of a sleeping bag
Position the cot near any radiators or portable heaters
Leave a hot water bottle in your baby's sleep space
Let your baby sleep in: hats, hoodies, outdoor clothing or under/in any weighted products (sleeping bags or blankets)
Remember: you can check your baby's temperature by touching the back of their neck or their chest. If clammy or sweaty, they're too hot and you should readjust layers. Don't use their hands or feet as a guide to how warm or cold they are as these extremities are always colder than the rest of the body.
